Gluten-Free, Vegan, Serves 2

  • 2 cups unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 chai tea bags
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1/4 tsp ground cardamom
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup or agave nectar
  • Pinch of ground cloves
  • Ground cinnamon, for garnish
  • Pinch of salt
  • Vegan whipped cream or coconut cream, for topping


In a small pot, heat the almond milk over medium heat until hot but not boiling. Add the chai tea bags to the pot and let them steep in the hot almond milk for about 5 minutes. Remove the tea bags and discard them. Whisk in the cocoa powder, maple syrup or agave nectar, ground cinnamon, ground ginger, ground cardamom, ground cloves, and salt until well combined.

Return the pot to the stove and heat the mixture over low heat for another 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until hot and well blended. Pour the chai-spiced hot chocolate into two mugs.
